Standard MYOB Reports vs a Custom Query Page

Start with the question you need to answer, not the number of reports in a menu. If you regularly need to find invoice lines for a customer or product, a standard search page may already be the simplest solution. If your team needs a different combination of data, filters or calculations, a custom query or report page may be more appropriate.

This suits questions such as “Which invoices included this item?” or “What price did we charge this customer for it?”

A custom page is worth discussing when the same unanswered question returns every week. You might need a particular grouping, a comparison between periods, a specific set of columns, or an export shaped for an internal workflow. The page should be defined around the decision someone will make from it; a long list of fields alone is not a useful specification.

How to describe a useful custom request

• State the business question in one sentence.
• Name the MYOB records you expect to use, if you know them.
• List the filters you need and the columns you want to see.
• Provide one example of the expected output, with private data removed.
• Say how often you will use the page and who will use it.
